ABOUT THE LOCATION
Located in Southwestern Nicaragua in the province of Rivas is blessed with unbelievable natural beauty, some of the most laid back and friendly people on earth, perfect beaches and, of course, amazingly consistent surf with offshore winds for most of the year! It is the ideal destination for a Nicaragua Surf Trip. The closest city is about an hour’s drive away (Rivas). Nicaragua is considered the new “hot spot” for surfers in Central America.
Being a true tropical paradise, air temperature range between 28 to 30°C (82 to 86°F) year round. Water temperatures range in the 28 to 30°C (82 to 86°F) around June and are at their lowest in February, in the range 24 to 28°C (75 to 82°F). Year round warm ocean temperatures mean that a rash vest and board shorts should be fine for surfing at any time of year. Sometimes in the Jan. – March months the am winds can kick up an upwelling and add a slight chill to the water so a vest is not out of the ordinary for dawn patrol surf sessions.
THE WAVES
There are many high quality surf spots in Popoyo, Nicaragua and surrounding areas. All surf breaks in the area are accessible by boat and/or vehicle:
Playgrounds: An easy beach break, Playgrounds is a fun and playful wave hence the name.
Lance’s Left: A left hand point break, Lances is more a of a mellow flatter wave, when the swell picks up it can stand up on the outside with rides up to 500 yards.
Popoyo: A popular point break with right and left options. The break has a channel on both sides of the wave for an easy paddle. It can hold large swells and offers a paddle to an outer reef for a bit more excitement.
Playa Santana: A beach break with typically 3 A Frames peaks created by the water refracting off the rocks in front on the Rancho Santa resort.

THE DETAILS
The surf in this wave rich region is extremely consistent with excellent surf options for all. From perfect barreling beach breaks to long drawn out point breaks to heavy outer reef bombs…the variety of surf here is plentiful and enough to keep any surfer engaged at all times!
A key component of our teaching philosophy is video and photo reviews, helping to track your progress and giving you focused goals to work on throughout the program. All progress tracking, photos and videos we take of you are yours to take home at the end of your SSA adventure, giving you a great reference for continued progression whenever and wherever you surf. Our goal is to accelerate your learning curve across the spectrum of the surf lifestyle to become a confident and skillful Surfer. This in combination with complimentary Yoga, fitness and breathing techniques will offer you unrivalled progression and improvement.
In all our locations, SSA supports local projects which help alleviate the problem of marine garbage and marine plastics. On every surf adventure with us, you will have the opportunity to learn more and get involved with our sustainability vision.

OUR GOAL
Your Safari Surf Adventures surf coaching program will be led by our experienced and passionate local team. We will guide you to level appropriate waves and employ the unique SSA training curriculum in and out of the water.
